BARNABAS' MISSION FIELD

Since 1980, Barnabas Ministries has worked in areas where God has called the Director, The Most Reverend Philip E. P. Weeks. Prior to 1986 ministry was given in three different African nations, one Carribean island, and five Asian countries. Since 1986 our chief focus has been in THE PHILIPPINE ISLANDS. Our primary purpose has been to provide support to the Philippine Episcopal Church, the Philippine Independent Catholic Church, the Christian Fellowship Church, the Charismatic Episcopal Church, and other Christian bodies which minister to the people of these islands.

In 1998 Barnabas Ministries, through the International Development Agency of the International Communion of the Charismatic Episcopal Church, expanded its outreach to include parts of Europe and Africa in areas of new growth within the CEC.

As part of our effort to encourage and bless, Barnabas Ministries sponsored a number of specific efforts which have been created to meet specific needs of these communities such as:

I. MISSIONARY ENLIGHTENMENT PROGRAM

More than 180 lay and clergy accompanied Bishop Weeks to the Philippines on a three-week missionary outreach between 1982 and 1999, but this program ended with the January, 1999 outreach.

II. BAHADA CHILD CARE PROGRAM

Pre-school children near Zamboanga, Mindanao were provided a Christian kindergarten preparation for elementary school. One Center is in a Moslem barrio with Barnabas Ministries, Inc being the only Christian agency providing help. Sponsors contributed $7 monthly to the Program. Children receive daily meal or snack and multi-vitamin; and, periodic dental care. Sponsors receive bio-data and photograph of child. A Christmas gift was given annually to each child. In June, 2000 The Alexandra Foundation took over this program.

III. EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS

  • High School - Education beyond elementary school in the Philippines is not free. Indigent children who cannot afford secondary education were assisted with a scholarship. Sponsors contributed $160 annually and receive bio-data and photograph of student. Currently students attending the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd Mission School in Calarian Zamboanga are sponsored. The 1999-2000 school year was our final year to accept new students.

  • College - Indigent young people otherwise unable to obtain a college education were sponsored through contributions ranging between $200 to $700 a semester depending upon Course, University and Location. Bio-data, budget and photograph will be provided sponsors. Strict Rules govern the program, a copy of which provided the sponsors upon request.

  • The Program is monitored regularly by in-country coordiators and has built-in safeguards to guarantee proper use of scholarship funds. In Zamboanga area Miss Brenda Mae Bustamante monitors the remaining college students in that area. Mrs. Gerrylyn Tawing monitors the scholarship program in Negros Oriental. No new students are being accepted.

Feeding programs, church construction, Bible distribution, vitamin distribution and clothing distribution were all part of our benevolence. Countless seminars for pastors were conducted over the years, along with team members composed of Americans conducting healing services. We saw miracles in these services.

For five years Barnabas team members smuggled thousands of Bibles into China, working with Brother ANdrew's OPEN DOORS ministry, and Christian Revival Fellowship in Hong Kong.
